WORT 89.9 FM welcomes, and the Celtic Music Association presents the

Karan Casey Band

Thursday, September 14

7:30 pm, Music Hall, UW-Madison campus, corner of Park St. and University Ave.

The Karan Casey Band is Karan Casey, former lead singer for Solas on vocals, Niall Vallely of Nomos on concertina and tin whistle, and Robbie Overson, the veteran guitar player from Scullion.

This special night features one of today's finest singers, keeping the tradition vital for a new generation, with the most dynamic concertina player around. The exquisite clarity and intimacy of Karan's voice draws the listener into her broad traditional repertoire as evident on her three recordings with Solas and her own solo success, Songlines. Niall's dexterity and pyrotechnics on the concertina must be seen and heard to be believed.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at B-Side on State St., Borders Books (east and west), Orange Tree Imports, Spruce Tree Music, and Star Liquor for $15 in advance, or day of show for $17. For more information, call (608) 251-1072 or e-mail rcnewton@facstaff.wisc.edu.

James Kelly and Daithi Sproule

Thursday, October 19

7:30 pm, Mills Hall (Humanities Bldg.), UW-Madison campus, corner of Park St. and University Ave.

Two of the legends of Irish music come together on fiddle and guitar in the natural amplification of Mills Hall to share an evening of pulsing dance tunes and poignant songs.

The two albums they recorded with box player Paddy O'Brien some 25 years ago are now classics - and these musicians have not slowed down since. The list of groups and virtuoso performers with whom James and Daithi have toured and recorded over the past two decades - not to mention their own solo albums - reads like a Who's Who of Irish music including Planxty, Patrick Street, Trian, and Daithi's current group, Altan. These two veterans are excited to be sharing a stage again after so many years.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at B-Side on State St., Borders Books (east and west), Orange Tree Imports, Spruce Tree Music, and Star Liquor for $12 in advance, or day of show for $14. For more information, call (608) 251-1072 or e-mail rcnewton@facstaff.wisc.edu.

Kornog

Saturday, November 4

8:00 pm, Music Hall, UW-Madison campus, corner of Park St. and University Ave.

Brittany's finest touring band returns to the States after a 10-year hiatus for a reunion tour that is not to be missed. Scots-born singer and bouzouki player, Jamie McMenemy, formerly of the Battlefield, mixes his Scottish ballads with the infectious dance tunes featuring flute virtuoso Jean-Michel Veillon, Celtic Fiddle Fest's Christian LeMaître on fiddle, and Arcady alumnus Nicolas Quemener on guitar. Kornog's level of musicianship and energy wowed Celtic music crowds during their frequent visits to Madison in the mid-80s - this is a rare opportunity for those who missed those incredible concerts and for the many who have had to wait impatiently for their return.

Tickets will be available after September 14 at B-Side on State St., Borders Books (east and west), Orange Tree Imports, Spruce Tree Music, and Star Liquor for $15 in advance, or day of show for $17. For more information, call (608) 251-1072 or e-mail rcnewton@facstaff.wisc.edu.
