Irish Set Dance – Beginner Series

Come learn the basics of set dancing!

We are thrilled to be offering a 5-week beginner series this fall! Over five classes, we will cover set dance basics and will learn a couple of commonly danced sets, so you can walk onto the dance floor feeling confident.

The series will culminate with our October 8^th dance with live music at the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center from 2:00-5:00 p.m. All dances learned in the beginner series will be included on the set list for the October 8^th dance! October 8th dance details here. 

Who: The class is designed for dancers who are new or relatively new to set dancing! All dancers are welcome to join, but class will be paced for beginners. All dances and instruction will use gender-neutral terminology. No partner needed. Children under 16 are welcome, but should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

When: Thursdays 7-9pm, September 8 - October 6

Where: Class will be held near Pheasant Branch Conservancy (address will be sent directly to class attendees!)

Why: Our goal is to establish a healthy and sustainable set dance community in Madison. We want set dancing to feel welcoming and accessible!

Cost: We are suggesting a donation of $50 for the five-week series, however, no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. All funds will be used for room rental and band fees for future set dance events. Class participants will be admitted to the October 8^th dance free of charge.

Please register in advance so we know how many dancers to expect. The series will proceed as long as we have at least seven dancers registered by 9/1/22.

Covid policy: Vaccinations required. Currently we plan for the classes to be mask-optional, but that will be subject to change in accordance with CDC and local health department guidance.
